Patients can return home following their surgery. A surgical bra should be worn for the first few days. During the recovery process, it is recommended to wear a sports bra and bras without underwire. For the first 24 to 48 hours, patients may experience some pain and tightness. The next day, patients will return for a follow-up visit. Steri-Strip™ Skin Closures or small tapes will be used to close the incisions. The closures will fall off by themselves within 10 to 14 days. Most patients can return to work and can drive their car within seven days. If your job requires strenuous activity, you may need up to three weeks to recover. Exercise can be continued after six weeks. It is important that patients are aware that not everyone heals the same; each patient will recover at her own pace.
There will be some scarring associated with breast reduction surgery; however, with proper care, incisions should fade and become less noticeable.
